Cheap but nice

If you want to sit in a decent pub with a good atmosphere but don't fancy forking out around £2.50 for a pint, the Hog's Head is the place to go. It has similar prices to the Regal but is a much nicer pub - which is a good combination, really. It's also good if you're in a large group as there's plenty of space to rearrange tables. Just don't try this upstairs when it's busy as you can hardly move. Upstairs there are loads of large TV screens and also some pool tables, but again, I wouldn't recommend playing on these when it's busy. There's also a good view over Parker's Piece so you can laugh at the various pissheads trying to play frisbee. My only real complaint about the pub is the toilets. And I'm not talking about having to search for a cubicle that isn't full of turd or vomit, or the walls being decorated with the most unconvincing graffiti I've ever seen (I don't know if the owners are trying to make the pub look seedy or something, but the "graffiti" consists of 3 types of handwriting, evenly scribbled all around the walls in the same 2 marker pens plus some tasteless pink paint, and is blatantly not done by vandals. Not quite sure why I noticed that, but hey). No, the main problem is (wait for it........) the taps: Seriously, when washing your hands, whatever you do, DO NOT put them under the hot tap, as the water is so ridiculously hot it'll hurt! But apart from the risk of scalding, the Hog's Head is a nice pub.
