The Castle (review) - and the food is good! - Review of The Castle Inn

It's hard not to fall in love with the Castle Inn. Masses of space, with hidden rooms and tables (such as the snug bar) which you can discover even after you've been going there for months (though admittedly you have to be pretty drunk to achieve this).
The Castle *does* serve good food, and it's almost always served quickly and efficiently (the Castle burger is especially recommended, as is their glorious chip butty).
But the reason to come to the Castle is the beer. They usually have nine real ales on (plus Guiness plus Stella), focusing on Adnams (this being one of the few Cambridge Adnams pubs), so expect Best, Fisherman and Broadside any time, plus things like Tally-Ho in the winter (decent), and Regatta in the summer (first class, don't drink anything else in June). They used to have Pedigree too (joy!) but they've since got rid of it (though hope springs eternal).
The bar staff are efficient and service is quick (though be warned of the confusion of people hanging around in clusters talking directly in front of the bar; they're probably not waiting to be served).
The place fills up quite early on popular evenings, but with a beer garden as well there should be plenty of room in the summer months. In the winter it's warm and cosy, and basically a great place to get drunk on excellent beer.
Bottom line? Best pub this side of Magdalene
